Big news coming soon!
Hello everyone! It’s been a little while, but I have some big writing updates coming soon, and I wanted to give you a sneak preview today.
Coming soon
In very exciting news, I have a new novel coming out later this year. I’m not quite ready to tell you all about it yet, but I should be able to give more details in the next few weeks, and in the meantime, I did want to share a little bit about the historical research I’ve been doing, which will probably give you a few hints as to certain aspects of the novel. Here are a few of the books I’ve found helpful in my research:
You can hear me talk about all of these in more detail over in a video on my YouTube channel here:
I can’t wait to tell you more about my next novel. I’ve been working on it on and off for the past two and a half years, and it’s very, very nearly complete. It’s a slight change of direction for me, but I’m so pleased with how the book’s turned out. I’m looking forward to being able to talk about it soon!
If you have any guesses about what kind of novel it might be, based on my research, do let me know!
Montgomery Hurst on promotion
In other news, my second novel, The Trouble with Mrs Montgomery Hurst, is on ebook promotion this month, so you can pick it up for just 99p if you’re in the UK. It’s an early-Victorian-set novel all about gossip, scandal, relationships and small-town life, and it’s still probably my favourite thing I’ve ever written.
A new short story
I also realised that I never shared my latest short story on here, so I thought I’d mention it today, too. I published ‘Top Hat’, a long short story set in the 1920s with a sort of rom-com feel, over on my Patreon a couple of months ago, and if anybody’s interested, you can buy the story for £3 over there. I wrote this one a few years ago in response to a writing prompt, and it’s a story I’m very fond of. I had great fun researching all the 1920s slang!
What I’m reading
I’m in the midst of two wonderful Victorian novels at the moment. The first – The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy – is an old favourite that I’m listening to on audioboook and loving as always, and the second is a new novel to me, by a Victorian author who is fast becoming a favourite; that’s A Life for a Life by Dinah Mulock Craik, which is incredibly pacy and tense so far.
I’m also currently reading along with the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, which I’m really enjoying. I can’t wait to get through more of the longlist.
Otherwise, that’s all for now, folks. Happy reading!
Katie
